Come experience what modern life has stopped providing
A one-week immersive co-living retreat for emotionally mature singles who are ready to build a lasting relationship…and who believe that great relationships are created, not found.
We've carefully designed an environment where meaningful relationships can develop naturally through shared experiences, thoughtful conversation, personal growth and genuine community.
Applications are currently closed.
We're not announcing our next retreat just yet, but you can register your interest to hear about future retreats and opportunities to join the Rare Company community.
Why we created this
Modern life has optimized for independence while quietly eroding the conditions where relationships flourish.
Many people have a longing for deeper, more meaningful relationships, but the environment around us has changed. We've built lives that are more digitally connected than ever before…and more disconnected in almost every other way.
We work remotely.
We spend evenings on our phones.
Our social circles have become smaller.
Our schedules rarely align.
Dating has become something we squeeze into our busy lives rather than something that grows naturally from shared life.
Then we wonder why it feels so difficult.
The truth is, meaningful relationships have rarely emerged from having seemingly infinite options and engaging in endless evaluation. They've usually grown much more quietly over time:
working alongside one another
walking somewhere
having unhurried conversations
laughing over breakfast
helping each other
living life together.
Unfortunately, those opportunities have become increasingly rare.
People don’t need more matches.
They need better environments.
Dating apps are remarkably good at introducing strangers.
But they're much less effective at creating the conditions where trust, friendship and attraction naturally grow.
At Rare Company, we're exploring a different idea.
What if meaningful relationships become more likely when:
people slow down...
share ordinary moments...
contribute to something together...
hone their relational skills…
and spend enough time with each other that first impressions are able to give way to genuine connection?
That's the environment we've set out to create.
We've been taught to search for the right person. But we believe great relationships are built by two people who choose each other - and keep choosing each other.
We've designed this retreat around what research tells us helps relationships grow.
Not algorithms. Not compatibility scores. Real human experience.
While the “spark” between two people cannot be predicted, decades of psychological research suggests that genuine relationships become more likely when people experience:
repeated interaction
shared purpose
psychological safety
cooperation
vulnerability
presence
time.
We've built those ingredients into every aspect of the week.
Because while we can't promise romance, we can be intentional about the environment.
The people matter.
Every participant applies. Not because we're trying to be exclusive. Because everyone deserves to spend the week surrounded by people who are genuinely ready for the same chapter of life.
Everyone attending is single.
Everyone wants to build a committed relationship.
Everyone understands that attraction can't be forced.
Everyone believes healthy relationships are built through commitment, communication and shared effort.
Everyone has done enough personal work to take responsibility for their side of relationships.
We aren't looking for perfection.
We're looking for kindness. Curiosity. Respect. Emotional maturity. And for people who are willing to invest in building something real.
Our retreat is based on three pillars:
Growth
Learn practical relationship skills through workshops, coaching and evidence-informed discussions that explore what helps healthy relationships thrive.
Not because anyone here needs fixing, but because every great relationship asks something of us.
Connection
Spend a week living alongside a carefully curated group of relationship-minded people.
Cook. Eat. Walk. Talk. Laugh. Reflect. Play. Sit around the table long after dinner.
Often, the moments that matter most aren't scheduled. They're given space to emerge.
Purpose
Work together on a local community regeneration project.
Research shows that shared goals and cooperation deepen relationships. But just as importantly, it simply feels good to be of service and contribute to something larger than yourself.
Success isn't measured by whether everyone leaves in a relationship.
We can’t honestly promise that.
Success might look like:
meeting someone you'd genuinely like to keep getting to know.
making lifelong friends.
learning something that transforms future relationships.
feeling hopeful again.
remembering what genuine, joyful human connection feels like
returning home more energized than when you arrived.
And yes, we hope that for some people, it may be the beginning of something much bigger.
You'll probably feel at home here if...
✓ You've built a life you're proud of and would love someone to share it with.
✓ You're tired of dating that feels transactional.
✓ You're single, in midlife and hoping to build a committed, long-term relationship with an opposite-sex partner.
✓ You believe healthy relationships are created through commitment, communication and shared effort - not discovered fully formed.
✓ You're open to growth and willing to be challenged.
✓ You value kindness, respect and emotional maturity.
✓ Even if you don't meet a romantic partner, you'll still consider the experience worthwhile.
This probably isn't for you if...
✕ You're hoping we'll introduce you to "the one."
✕ You're looking for guaranteed chemistry.
✕ You believe conflict means you've chosen the wrong partner.
✕ You're mainly looking for a holiday.
✕ You're hoping someone else will make you happy.
X You’d rather spend a week swiping or collecting phone numbers than building real connection.
✕ You're unwilling to contribute to community.
More than a week away. A thoughtfully designed experience before, during and after the retreat.
Meaningful relationships don't begin the moment people arrive, and they don't have to end when the retreat finishes. That's why we've designed an experience that begins before the retreat and continues afterwards.

Beyond the Retreat
We hope this is just the beginning.
While the retreat lasts one week, our vision extends far beyond those seven days.
As a founding participant, you'll become one of the first members of the Rare Company alumni community: a growing network of thoughtful, relationship-minded people who share the values at the heart of this experience.
As our community grows, we hope to create opportunities for alumni to reconnect through reunions, gatherings and future alumni-only retreats.
While we're still at the beginning of that journey, we're excited to build it together with our founding cohort.
The people who join us this year will help shape not only the retreat itself, but the culture, traditions and relationships that future cohorts will become part of.
We'd be honored to build that alongside you.
*Please note: This retreat includes a community regeneration project and outdoor activities such as hiking. Participants should have a reasonable level of physical fitness and be comfortable taking part in light to moderate physical activity throughout the week.
Getting to know you
Our application process
We intentionally keep our cohorts small and carefully curated.
The application process isn't about finding "perfect" people.
It's about ensuring that everyone joins the retreat with similar intentions and contributes to creating a safe, generous and supportive community.
Step 1:
Schedule your ‘Getting to Know You’ call and complete the online application.
We'll ask about who you are, your relationship goals, what you're hoping for, and why you'd like to attend.
Step 2:
Join us for a relaxed 45-minute conversation.
This gives us an opportunity to answer your questions, learn more about you, and help both of us decide whether the retreat feels like the right fit.
Step 3:
If we're both happy to move forward, we'll invite you to join the cohort.
You'll receive your participant agreement and payment information.
Step 4:
Begin preparing for the retreat.
You'll receive your welcome pack, join the pre-retreat group call, and schedule your initial coaching session.

Why we created Rare Company Retreats
We have spent years as leadership coaches, supporting people as they navigate complex professional challenges.
But lately, we have seen a profound shift in the people we work with.
As the world has grown more fragmented, we have watched even the brightest, most capable individuals struggle with a silent, growing isolation.
We started Rare Company Retreats because we believe that the most effective way to help people struggling with disconnection isn't through another algorithm, a new app, or spending more time with AI.
It’s by bringing these wonderful, accomplished people together and giving them something increasingly rare: presence, time and space designed to reconnect them with themselves, other good people, and what's possible.
Because being in the company of good people changes us:
We become more hopeful.
We take healthier risks.
We laugh more.
We see ourselves differently.
We feel more nourished.
We unleash more of our potential.
And the right people don't just make life better -- they can change the trajectory of it.
We believe that humans are wired for connection, but our culture has come to treat this need as a weakness to be managed or a commodity to be purchased.
We wanted to build something different. An antidote in our era of disconnection. A microcosm of the world we wish existed.
If this speaks to you, we hope you’ll apply to join us in spending a week in the rare company of other thoughtful people who are curious about life, relationships and themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
We aim to create a balanced cohort for the retreat. Because we carefully curate each group, applications may close for one group before the other. Our priority is creating the strongest possible community rather than filling places on a first-come, first-served basis.
-
Because the people who attend are one of the most important parts of the experience.
We aren't looking for perfect people - we're looking for people who are genuinely ready to invest in building healthy relationships and who want to contribute to a thoughtful, supportive community.
The application process helps ensure everyone arrives with aligned intentions and realistic expectations. Because who is the room influences the quality of the experience.
-
No.
Everyone attending is single and open to a committed relationship, but this isn't speed dating or organized matchmaking.
Rather than arranging introductions, we focus on creating the kind of shared experiences through which genuine relationships have often developed throughout human history.
Our gathering is a facilitated experience for personal and relational growth. We are led by experienced leadership coaches who understand how to hold space for vulnerability and maturity. The goal is not just to meet someone, but to practice the skills of being with someone.
No speed dating. No matchmaking. No pressure to perform.
Just enough structure to help people connect, and enough space for relationships to unfold naturally.
-
That's a real possibility, and we'd never promise otherwise.
Chemistry can't be manufactured.
What we can do is create an environment intentionally designed around the conditions that help meaningful relationships develop.
Many people may leave with new friendships, fresh perspectives, renewed confidence or a deeper understanding of themselves. Some may meet someone they'd like to continue getting to know. All of those are meaningful outcomes.
-
Not at all.
We encourage curiosity rather than expectation.
You're invited to participate fully in the community, without feeling that every interaction needs to lead somewhere.
-
You'll need a reasonable level of general fitness to take part comfortably in the retreat.
Our community regeneration project involves light to moderate physical activity, such as shoveling, digging, carrying light materials and working outdoors as part of a team. We also have activities planned throughout the week, including hiking and other outdoor experiences.
You don't need to be an athlete or have exceptional fitness, but you should feel comfortable being active for several hours at a time and participating in the program alongside the rest of the group.
If you have an injury, medical condition or mobility concern and aren't sure whether the retreat would be suitable, we'd encourage you to mention it in your application or discuss it with us during our Getting to Know You conversation. We're always happy to talk it through and help you decide whether this retreat is the right fit.
-
Yes.
While the retreat has a shared rhythm, we've intentionally built in space to rest, explore, journal, swim, walk or simply enjoy quiet moments.
Some of the most meaningful conversations happen during unstructured time.
-
Absolutely.
This isn't a week of constant socializing or high-energy networking.
The program balances group activities with quieter moments, and we encourage everyone to participate in ways that feel genuine rather than performative.
-
No. This is an alcohol and drug-free retreat.
We've made this choice intentionally to support presence, psychological safety and authentic connection throughout the week. We want everyone to feel comfortable participating fully, knowing that conversations and shared experiences are taking place in a supportive, substance-free environment.
-
We curate participants who are in a similar life stage and share comparable intentions around relationships.
Most participants are likely to be in midlife - mid 30’s to late 40’s - but we consider every application individually.
-
The retreat venue has stairs and no elevator so is not easily accessible for guests with impaired mobility. If you use a wheelchair or have mobility-related access needs, please contact us before applying so we can discuss whether the retreat is suitable for you.
Maybe what you're looking for isn't more introductions.
Maybe you've been missing the conditions where meaningful relationships naturally grow.
If you're ready to spend a week with thoughtful, relationship-minded people...
If you're open to slowing down...
If you're willing to contribute as much as you hope to receive...
We'd love to hear from you.
